The Colorado River Drought Contingency Plan is now officially law. Following congressional action earlier this month, President Donald J. Trump on Tuesday signed the Colorado River Drought Contingency Plan Authorization Act, which directs the Secretary of the Interior to execute and carry out agreements under the the plan, as developed by upper and lower basin states that rely on Colorado River water. The drought contingency plan is a formal strategy between Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming (upper basin), California, Nevada and Arizona (lower basin) to maintain levels at Lakes Powell and Mead in the face of dry conditions.
